Mobile mecanum robot

The Mecanum wheel is an omnidirectional wheel able to move a vehicle in any direction

The rollers typically each have an axis of rotation at 45° to the wheel plane

The Mecanum wheel is based in series of rubberized external rollers obliquely attached to the whole circumference of its rim-hub. These rollers are positioned diagonally or at 45-degree angle to the axis of rotation of the wheel. This makes the wheel exert force in diagonal direction when moving forward or backward. Mecanum wheels are capable of moving a platform vehicle to any direction instantaneously by the combination of independent wheel rotations.

The platform needs two types of wheels named left-hand and right-hand Mecanum wheels. The difference between them is the orientation of the rollers and they must be installed in the robot in specific locations. When spinning generates a propelling force perpendicular to the roller axle, which can be vectored into a longitudinal and a transverse component in relation to the vehicle.
